Summer Hat

I created this hat to place on a wrought iron hat stand. I wanted Magnolias on a yellow polka dotted hat. I could not find any cardstock that I liked and didn't, at the time, have a 12" printer. To compensate, I painted white polka-dots onto yellow card stock with acrylic paint and a sponge dauber. I was afraid the acrylic paint might inhibit me from getting a good cut, but the Blackcat cut right through it like butter. I added some grosgrain ribbon for the band and bow and the Southern Magnolia's for embellishments. The center of the Magnolias is created from a plastic robin's egg. I painted light green flock all over the egg then added dabs of DecoArt's dimensional Paper Effects for the bumpy look. I use White Pearl because I can color it any color I need with alcohol inks or similar. These were painted yellow. I have since added an optional paper stamen to the file. The center of the flower is painted with a wash of dark magenta acrylic paint. The yellow stamens would then be glued in with the egg nesting in the center of the stamens.
